The essence of TIME!

where we had time to catch-up. Today business paradigm does not allow that. Time is precious. Time lost is opportunity lost, profit lost, growth lost. So in Business today, time is essence. Let me give some relevant comparison to stress the importance of Time.

 Now Beijing Olympics is in full flow. We have 100M, 200M relay and other events. If you want to know the value of ‘one millisecond’‘ask the person who has won a silver medal in Olympics.

 Recently in Spain there was a plane accident in which very few survived. If you ask the person who has survived in the accident, you will then realize the value of ‘one second ‘.

 We invariably get stuck in traffic jams when we go to the station with family to catch a train to go on holiday or to go to another town to attend an important function. The traffic jam happens due to traffic disruptions because of sudden rain or visit of a VVIP or people coming in trucks to attend a political rally. These are common ones which we all experience. We end up sometimes in ‘just missing’ the train. At that time it help us to realize the value of ‘one minute’

 In a big country like ours, number of deserving youngsters do not get job. The personal feelings, difficulties of such people are clearly depicted in many films. Invariably they are shown as ending up as daily wage labourer. Not only that, they show what-all, the person does on getting the first day wage as well as their happy feelings. True. If you ask such of those daily wage labourer, you will realize the value of ‘one day ‘.

 Every week we receive magazines that come out weekly. So the tasks in front of the editor are not simple. He has to decide the cover picture, heading, cover story, total contents, get advertisements, do marketing, do sales, collect receivables etc., etc., Any mistake in any of these will totally affect subsequent week. If you discuss with the editor, he will make you realize the value of ‘a week’

 Our sisters / wife give birth to baby. If you ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby, she will make you realize the value of ‘one month’.

 If you ask a good student who has failed in his exams (due to unforeseen circumstances or force majeure factors) & who passes after a year then he will make you realize the value of ‘one year’

Time is essence. I am sure you will agree that from time immemorial we know time is precious. So the question to ask us is are we sensitive, to timely completion of work when it comes to our work, at the work place. If not we should. I am sure you will.
